Why this space exists

KulturRaum is a place for literature, art, and ideas that should not be drowned out by the noise of the masses. We collect what endures – quietly, precisely, independently.

Reduction as a method Every text, every image is examined for its core. Superfluous elements are removed until only the essential remains.

Attitude over hype We do not follow any trend curve. The only thing that matters is whether content holds up – linguistically, intellectually, aesthetically.

Slowness as quality Instead of a daily flood, contributions appear when they are ready. Readers find depth here, not timeliness at any cost.

Dialogue instead of monologue Culture emerges through exchange. That is why we invite contradiction, supplementation, and personal discovery.

Platform Chronicle

Milestones and developments since the founding

  1. Spring 2021

    Founding of KulturRaum

First draft of an idea for a platform that gives literature and art beyond the mainstream a place. The concept is created in a small studio in Wiener Neustadt.

  2. Autumn 2021

    First reading series "Silent Words"

Opening event with five authors at the city library. Around 80 guests experience an evening about the poetry of silence.

    Online presence goes live

Launch of the website with first essays, poems, and a digital gallery for contemporary art. The response from the local cultural scene is encouraging.

  4. December 2022

    Project "Library of Lost Books"

Together with antiquarian bookshops and private collectors, an archive for out-of-print and forgotten literary works is established. First digitized copies are online.

  6. June 2024

    Editorial expansion

The team grows to six permanent editors. Contributions on literature, art, and cultural essays are now published monthly.

2018

Founding and First Reading

The initiative started with a small reading in a vacant bookstore. Around forty guests listened to poems and short prose. The evening showed that there is a need for quiet, literary spaces.

2019

First Exhibition

Together with three local artists, the exhibition "Between the Lines" was created. Paintings and drawings directly referencing literary texts were shown. The response was surprisingly large – over 200 visitors came in two days.

2020

Digital Transformation

The pandemic forced us to find new paths. A stopgap solution evolved into a regular digital literature circle. The number of participants rose to over 80 people per evening. We kept this format even after reopening.

2021

First Festival

The "Festival of Quiet Tones" combined readings, performances, and installations over three days. Around 500 visitors attended. The success confirmed that our approach of quiet, focused cultural mediation works.

2022

Own Premises

With the opening of a permanent venue in the city center, the platform found a home. The space accommodates 60 guests and has since been used for readings, discussions, and small exhibitions.

2023

Award for Cultural Mediation

Our work was recognized with the regional cultural award. The jury particularly highlighted the connection between literature and visual arts, as well as the low-threshold offerings for a broad audience.

Each step was a response to what the community needed – and an experiment that was further developed.

Our Stance

KulturRaum – where literature and art meet

We are a place for everyone who appreciates the written word and visual art as vibrant forms of expression. Our work is aimed at readers, viewers, and creators seeking inspiration in a calm, thoughtful environment. We curate content that stimulates reflection without being loud.
Literature

Quiet texts that endure

We introduce authors whose language is subtle and precise. No sensationalism, but sentences you read twice. From essays and poetry to literary reportage – we seek voices that transform everyday life into poetry.

“A good sentence is like a window that suddenly opens.”
Art

Images that tell stories

Whether watercolor, drawing, or digital collage – we showcase works that have their own narrative. We are interested in the dialogue between traditional techniques and new media. Each exhibition on our platform is an invitation to look more closely.

“Art is the visible trace of a thought.”
Culture

Spaces for encounter

Culture emerges through exchange. That's why we host readings, workshop discussions, and open studios. Our focus is on formats that allow time and tranquility – for genuine conversations about what moves us. No festival hustle, but concentrated moments.

“The best place for a conversation is a quiet room.”
